Carl Henry

Lightning Talk | From Cynic to Advocate: South Georgia Island and Yellowstone

One of Carl’s fondest early childhood memories was opening the perfect Christmas gift, a brand new Kodak Instamatic camera. That excitement became a passion while he was studying engineering at Rice University. He had the opportunity to take several photography classes and study under some very talented and inspiring photographers. This experience ignited a fire that has kept burning throughout his adult life.

Frustrated with film photography and never comfortable in the darkroom, Carl embraced high-quality digital photography, exploding his passion into obsession. Carl works hard to continually refine his visual and technical skills while continuing to pursue his original areas of interest: wildlife, landscape and abstract.

Recently, Carl has focused on the large water birds of Southeast Texas, using his photography to educate and inspire viewers and reveal the beauty of the natural world surrounding us. Carl wants to lead people towards a lifetime of appreciation and protection of our natural world.

He lives with his wife and yellow Lab in Houston, Texas.

Carl will participate in the Lightning Talks at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 22, 2019.
